Naming Convention: 03_Audio_2024FA_Your_First_and_Last_Name
Due: February 20th
Duration: Roughly 1 to 2 minutes
By the next class: Please bring headphones and your external hard drive (flash drives will not work for this assignment).
Your proposal for what youʼd create as your audio piece emailed to me or delivered as a typed document. Please remember to include the two emotions from the list below that you are going to use in your transition.
In tonight’s homework, we will explore the emotional impact that sounds can have on us. Your assignment for this project is to create a piece of audio that transitions from one emotional element listed below to another. This can be done in the form of a song, a sound poem, a narrative or an audio-scape. This project must be one and a half to two minutes, have at least 3 audio bits originally recorded by you.
List of emotions:
- Anger
- Anxiety
- Awe
- Awkwardness
- Boredom
- Calm
- Confusion
- Disgust
- Envy
- Excitement
- Fear
- Joy
- Nostalgia
- Sadness
- Triumph
Remember:
- You can only pick from the emotional elements listed above. These are chosen because they are easily distinguishable from each other and should help avoid confusion like transitioning from sad to depressed.
- If you are using voices in your piece avoid having them tell us how they feel for example, “Oh I’m so sad I lost my cat. Wait… I found my cat. I’m so happy!
- If you plan to use music not recorded by you please limit the samples to only a few seconds. I want you to create the emotions yourself not just add to emotions already created by another musician’s music.
Due date: Your final audio piece exported as an .aiff or .wav emailed to me or brought in on an external drive.
You will be graded on the following items please make sure you pay attention to them.
- How clearly the piece transitions from one emotion to another.
- The quality of your original recordings.
- The unity of the piece (how well it fits together).
- The way in which you vary rhythm and or tempo to change our perception.
