Part of this structure is the narrative we each tell ourselves, the narrative of our life. ‘You Are Not So Smart’ is an excellent blog and podcast which deals with how our brain works and how we can sometimes be fooled by it. In this excerpt David McRaney reads a section from his book which deals with narrative bias.

Some things to think about

While listening, please consider the following things:

  • Do you think you have a narrative bias?
  • How does what is being discussed in this podcast relate to current movies, TV shows or books?
  • How could you use people’s narrative bias in your art?
  • Think of an example where narrative bias might have affected the way you or someone else behaved.
  • Now that you know about the idea of narrative bias what would you do, if anything, to avoid it tripping you up?
