Naming Convention: 06_Video_2024FA_Your_First_and_Last_Name

Due: April 7th

Throughout this class, we have been studying the ways in which time can affect a piece of art. We are now in the video section; in the previous assignment, we created time through the use of animation in video we will be recording various events in time and putting them together to create your piece.

Final piece description

Create a video 1 to 3 minutes in length which has, at least, three to four cuts and an additional bit of sound not recorded with the camera as the same time as the video. This assignment can be edited and shot with whatever equipment or programs you choose, but we will be expanding upon the basics of Premiere Pro we learned in the Kuleshov assignment. The final piece should be properly named (see above) and exported before class begins on the day it is due. Any assignment uploaded during or after class will be considered late and graded accordingly.

Remember:

  • I would like to give you the extra time to finish up this piece over Focus week, but I will also expect you to be working on your final around that time as well, plan accordingly.
  • I know that by this point in class having a project as open as this might be a little overwhelming if you’d like some more restraints please let me know.
  • While the project is an open-ended one; I will not accept documentation of traveling from one location to another by shooting it in its entirety and then speeding it up. If you want to do something along these lines, please talk to me in person first.
  • If you want to work in a small group, you are welcome to do so just; let me know what each member will be doing. I want to make sure everyone gets a chance to both edit and shoot part of the piece.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask people to help you, buy them food.

Project timeline

By next class: Your typewritten proposal for your video project if you are having trouble coming up with an idea try – http://writingprompts.tumblr.com or Google “writing prompts”.

Some ideas are:

  • a short documentary,
  • a music video of your own music or someone elses’,
  • a trailer for a larger movie,
  • a short narrative,
  • a twisted (or normal) fairy tale,
  • a visualization of your favortie creepy pasta,
  • a parody of a known genre like a cooking show or YouTube story time
  • an experimental film (plase remember that to be experimental, there needs to be an experiment not just seeing what happens if you add a bunch of effects and layers to you and your friends hanging out).

Due date: Your final piece exported to your external drive before class begins.
